Under lång tid har produktionen av halvledare varit förlagd till Taiwan och andra länder i Asien. Men nu tar Europa och USA nya initiativ för att öka produktionen av bland annat halvledare, inte minst så kallade ai-chipp.

– Ett ai-chipp är en specialiserad typ av halvledarkrets som är designad för att hantera uppgifter som maskininlärning och djupinlärning (deep learning). Det finns ingen exakt definition av vad som utgör ett ai-chipp, eftersom teknologin ständigt utvecklas och gränserna mellan traditionella processorer (cpu:er), grafiska processorer (gpu:er) och ai-chipp blir allt mer suddiga, säger Mikael Östling som är professor på KTH.
